What a bad year for snow. First we weren’t getting any snow. A warm fall and early winter followed by temperatures so cold snow wouldn’t even form. Now we’ve got so much in the middle of warm weather cycles that slides are happening left and right. Got that first frozen ice layer on the ground with a couple feet of super dry fluffy powder now being buried under some super wet, heavy snow. Bad conditions to say the least.

There have been slides at Snowbird, near Fernie and today there were a few slides at Jackson Hole. In bounds slides seem to be the new trend. I’ve seen plenty of threads in various online forums of people deciding to wear their avy beacons in-bounds on a full-time basis this year. The snow is just that bad.

The Jackson slides ripped clear to the ground level so they’ll be starting over on snow accumulation for those areas. This after five feet of snow in the past several days.

Be careful out there people. Avalanches are bad things.
